SERVICE ANIMALS

Guests with service animals are welcome. Service animals are “dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks with people with disabilities,” according to the Revised Americans with Disabilities Act Service Animal Requirements.

Service animals in a working capacity are allowed in all public areas of the park when accompanied by a visitor with a disability; and,

Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.

Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or a task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability.

It is now a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida to misrepresent an animal as a service animal. Misdemeanors of the second degree in Florida can result in a jail term of up to 60 days and a fine up to $500.

If you are bringing a service animal to Hart Springs, we ask that you let a staff member know that you have a service animal upon check-in to the Springs Park or RV Campground.

If the service animal’s behavior is out of control and the owner does not take effective action to control it, he or she will be asked to remove the animal from the premises.

COMFORT AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS

Hart Springs has the right to turn away comfort or emotional support animals. We ask that you do not bring these animals to the park.

Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under ADA service animal guidelines.
